Handmade ceramic plate with animal design by Takanobu Sawada

Realistic yet irresistibly charming—
Take a relaxing moment with your favorite handmade cup.

Based in the scenic countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, Japanese ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada brings life to his pottery with delicately hand-carved animal motifs.

Each piece is handcrafted with care, designed for comfort and everyday use. The soft milky-white surface, created using the traditional kohiki technique, highlights the natural warmth of handmade ceramic.

Hand-carved animal motif on kohiki pottery

Feel the warmth of handcrafted tradition

Rather than painted, each animal illustration is carved directly into the kohiki clay, a technique that adds texture and individuality to every line.

The result is a one-of-a-kind design that combines artistry with a sense of gentle playfulness.

Born into a family of Kyoto ceramic artists, Sawada has been immersed in traditional Japanese pottery since childhood and now has over 20 years of experience.

Despite being in his thirties, he has already earned a reputation as a seasoned artisan in the world of Kyo and Kiyomizu ware.
