Takunobu Sawada is a ceramic artist who has a studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Nantan City, Kyoto.
Surrounded by rich natural scenery, he creates pottery adorned with realistic yet warm and endearing animals.
Each piece is meticulously shaped, with a form carefully carved to ensure ease of use when held.
The soft, milky white slipware base enhances the gentle texture unique to pottery.
Pottery that embodies the warmth of handcrafted work
The animal patterns are not painted with a brush, but rather created by scraping away the slipware base.
Each line has movement, resulting in a finish that conveys unique artistry and warmth.
Takunobu Sawada, whose father is a Kyoto-ware/Kiyomizu-ware ceramic artist, has been familiar with pottery since childhood and already has 20 years of experience in pottery making.
At just 30 years old, he is an artisan with solid skills, reaching the level of a veteran.
Mr. Sawada, who combines youthful sensibility with refined techniques, creates original Kyoto-style vessels.
