Realistic, yet somehow endearing.
Relax with your favorite cup.

Takanobu Sawada is a ceramic artist who has a studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Nantan City, Kyoto.

Surrounded by rich natural scenery, he creates vessels depicting animals that are both realistic and warm.

Each piece is carefully shaped, with a form carved out to be easy to use when held.

The soft, milky white kohiki (powdered clay slip) base enhances the gentle texture unique to pottery.

Vessels that convey the warmth of handcraftsmanship

The animal patterns are not drawn with a brush but are expressed by scratching off the kohiki base.

Each line has movement, resulting in a unique and warm finish.

Takanobu Sawada, whose father is a Kyoyaki-Kiyomizuyaki potter, has been familiar with pottery since childhood and has already been creating pottery for 20 years.

At 30, he is a craftsman with solid skills, having reached the level of a veteran.

Sawada, who combines a youthful sensibility with refined skills, creates highly original vessels unique to Kyoto.

Please experience their charm in your daily life.

Comment from the Owner

This is a convenient flat plate, created using the time-consuming "tatara" slab-building technique.

It's a versatile dish, perfect for cakes, pastries, side dishes, or salads. It's an easy-to-use vessel that you'll want to have multiple of.

A delightful piece with expressive animals that are enjoyable just to look at.

Please find your favorite.
