Realistic yet charming—
Enjoy a moment of calm with your favorite cup.
Japanese ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works from his studio in the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto. Surrounded by nature, he creates traditional handmade pottery that features realistic yet heartwarming animal illustrations.
Each piece is carefully shaped and trimmed to ensure comfort and functionality in your hand. The soft, ivory-toned clay—finished in the traditional kohiki glaze—enhances the warm texture unique to ceramic ware.
Experience the warmth of handcrafted Kyoto pottery
Rather than using a brush, Sawada hand-carves his animal designs into the kohiki surface, allowing each line to flow with movement and emotion.
This meticulous process results in expressive, one-of-a-kind ceramics full of charm and artistic individuality.
Born to a family of Kyoto ceramic artists, Sawada has been immersed in pottery since childhood and now has over 20 years of experience in traditional Japanese ceramic craftsmanship—even as he remains in his 30s.
Combining youthful creativity with refined skill, Sawada’s pieces reflect Kyoto’s unique heritage and his own original vision.
We hope you’ll enjoy bringing the spirit of Japan and the charm of handmade Kyoto ceramics into your everyday life.
