Handmade Kyoto ceramic bowl with lotus leaf shape

Botanical Aesthetics and Kyoto Pottery Tradition

Jiucasca is a tranquil ceramic studio nestled in the peaceful residential area of northern Kyoto City.

Founded by young ceramic artist Asami Maeda, the studio is named after the idea of a "gentle drizzle"—symbolizing her desire to create pieces that quietly enrich daily life.

Crafted in a workshop swept by the gentle breeze from Mount Hiei, each handmade piece draws inspiration from plants and nature, showcasing intricate botanical designs that reflect the essence of traditional Japanese pottery with a modern touch.

Refined Skill and a Deep Sense of Beauty

With a background in painting and philosophy, Asami Maeda brings a unique sensitivity to her handmade work.

She respectfully embraces traditional Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-yaki techniques, while expressing her own intuitive artistry—bringing a fresh breeze to Kyoto’s handmade ceramic scene.

Ceramics That Quietly Complement Your Table

“I cherish the connection between maker and user,” says Maeda. Her creations are not just objects of beauty—they are designed for everyday comfort and use.

The gentle tones and soft shapes fit naturally into daily meals, offering warmth and familiarity every time they’re held.

The gentle depth makes it perfect for plating pasta, salads, or stir-fried dishes—an ideal choice for everyday meals.
