Hand-painted Matcha Bowl from Kyoto – A Symphony of Tradition and Freshness
This handmade Kyoto matcha bowl features a lively depiction of green maple leaves fluttering gracefully over flowing water. The dynamic yet refined brushwork captures the refreshing charm of early summer in Kyoto.
Each brushstroke expresses the artist’s sensitivity and mastery of Iroe—the traditional overglaze painting technique that Jyosui Kato has inherited and refined through decades of dedication.
The smooth curves, carefully shaped on the potter’s wheel, merge harmoniously with vivid hand-painted details—bringing together Japanese artistry, craftsmanship, and nature.

Refreshing Tranquility for Every Season
Perfect for both traditional tea ceremonies and casual tea moments at home, this bowl evokes a sense of cool air and flowing water—ideal for summer tea gatherings.
When displayed, its graceful form and hand-painted pattern fill the room with a soft sense of calm and seasonal vitality.
Light to hold and gentle to the touch, it’s a piece that connects your everyday life with the timeless artistry of Kyoto pottery.

The Legacy of Kyoto’s Overglaze Painting
Jyosui Kato continues the elegant tradition of Edo-period Kyoto ceramics, where realism and refined aesthetics intertwine. His hand-painted works bring to life the gentle flow of nature with delicate lines and balanced colors.
Combining classic motifs with a contemporary sense of lightness, his creations embody both tradition and innovation in Japanese handmade ceramics.
This Kyoto matcha bowl makes a perfect gift from Japan—a timeless keepsake that carries the fresh energy of the season and the spirit of craftsmanship.
