Realistic yet irresistibly charming.
Take a relaxing moment with your favorite cup.

In the lush countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works in his quiet studio, creating handmade pottery inspired by nature.

His pieces feature animals that are both realistic and endearing—expressions of warmth shaped by hand.

Each form is carefully molded and refined to feel comfortable when held, making them a joy to use in daily life.

The soft, milky white kohiki glaze brings out the gentle texture that is unique to traditional Japanese ceramics.

Feel the warmth of handmade craftsmanship

Instead of painting, the animal illustrations are carefully carved into the kohiki-glazed surface, giving them a rich texture and expressive movement.

Each line reflects Sawada’s artistic sensitivity and unique approach to traditional Japanese pottery.

Growing up as the son of a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware ceramic artist, Sawada has been immersed in ceramic art from a young age and has over 20 years of experience.

Now in his 30s, he is already recognized for his refined skills and deep understanding of the craft.

Combining a youthful sensibility with polished techniques, Sawada creates pottery full of originality—expressing the spirit of Kyoto in each handmade piece.

We hope you’ll bring the charm of his traditional Japanese ceramic work into your home and experience its quiet beauty in your everyday life.
