Realistic yet charming, a piece of pottery that brings joy to your dining table.

Takunobu Sawada, who runs his studio in the picturesque Satoyama area of Nantan City, Kyoto.

This series of animal-themed pottery combines a realistic style with a touch of warmth, hand-crafted by Sawada.

Each piece is carefully shaped and meticulously refined to ensure it is practical for everyday use, with a lovely milky white glaze that showcases the natural texture of ceramic.

The animal designs are not painted with a brush but created by scratching the surface of the clay, bringing a unique artistic touch and warmth to each piece.

With a father who was a Kyoto-based Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware ceramic artist, Sawada developed a deep interest in pottery from a young age. He has now been making pottery for 20 years in his 30s, entering the realm of experienced artisans.

With a fresh perspective and refined skills, Sawada creates pottery that exudes originality. Bring one of his pieces into your home and experience the craftsmanship of traditional Kyoto pottery.

Owner's Comment

This small size is perfect for serving Japanese sweets like sweet bean rice cakes (mamemochi).

The depth of the plate also makes it a great option for soy sauce or dipping sauces.
