Takunobu Sawada is a ceramic artist with a studio nestled in the satoyama (foothills) of Nantan City, Kyoto.

Surrounded by rich nature, he creates vessels adorned with animals that are both realistic and warm.

Each piece is meticulously formed and carved to ensure ease of use when held.

The soft, milky-white kohiki (powder-glazed) base enhances the gentle texture unique to ceramics.

Vessels that convey the warmth of craftsmanship

The animal patterns are not drawn with a brush but created by scraping away the kohiki base.

Each line possesses movement, resulting in a unique artistry and a warm finish.

Takunobu Sawada, whose father is a Kyoyaki/Kiyomizuyaki ceramic artist, has been familiar with pottery since childhood and already has 20 years of experience in ceramic art.

At just 30 years old, he is a highly skilled artisan who has reached the level of a veteran.

Sawada, who combines youthful sensibilities with refined techniques, creates original vessels unique to Kyoto.

This piece is shaped using the labor-intensive "tatara" method, resulting in a flat and easy-to-use form.
