Takunobu Sawada is a ceramic artist who has a studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Nantan City, Kyoto.

Surrounded by rich nature, he creates pottery adorned with animals that are both realistic and warm.

Each piece is carefully shaped, and its form is sculpted with ease of use in mind.

The soft, milky white slipware enhances the gentle texture unique to ceramics.

Pottery that embodies the warmth of handcrafted work

The animal patterns are not drawn with a brush, but rather created by scraping away the slipware base.

Each line has movement, resulting in a finish that conveys unique artistry and warmth.

Takunobu Sawada, whose father is a Kyoto ware/Kiyomizu ware ceramic artist, has been familiar with pottery since childhood and already has 20 years of experience in pottery making.

At just 30 years old, he is a craftsman with solid skills who has reached the level of a seasoned veteran.

Mr. Sawada, with his fresh sensibility and refined skills, creates original pottery unique to Kyoto.

This piece is shaped using the labor-intensive "tatara" technique, making it a flat and easy-to-use plate.
