Unending Pursuit of Glaze Perfection
Yoshinori Izumi, who has a studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Keihoku, Kyoto, has been researching glazes for over 50 years.
Building on the knowledge he gained at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Research, he has meticulously experimented with firing temperatures, glaze formulations, and the effects of flame on the glaze, striving for unique kiln-change expressions.
Izumi's work is not merely dependent on chance but is built upon years of accumulated data and experience.
Yet, even with all his knowledge, unpredictable changes still occur within the kiln, ensuring that no two pieces ever look exactly alike.

Beautiful Colors Born from Fire
The Tenmoku and celadon pieces crafted by Izumi showcase complex color changes that arise during firing.
The deep gradations created by the flowing glaze and the delicate kiln changes resulting from the reaction of mineral components exhibit an appearance much like a natural phenomenon.

Utensils that Blend into Daily Life
While possessing a high artistic quality, Izumi's vessels are created with an emphasis on everyday use.
Drawing from years of experience crafting a wide range of vessels, including sake cups, teacups, and matcha bowls, meticulous attention is paid to the feel on the lips, ease of holding, and overall usability.
These vessels possess a quiet presence yet enhance the food and drinks they hold. They are pieces that allow you to enjoy the changing expressions of the glaze and the play of light with every use.

Comment from the Owner
This is a small bean dish from the "Shooting Star" series, featuring beautiful blue and silver iridescence created by the firing process.
The flowing glaze pattern is impressive, allowing you to enjoy various expressions depending on the viewing angle.
It's a conveniently sized piece for serving soy sauce or pickles, adding a subtle presence to your dining table.
