Handmade ceramic mug by Takanobu Sawada from Kyoto

Realistic, yet endearing—
Relax with your favorite handmade cup.

In the peaceful countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, Japanese ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates pottery that captures the gentle beauty of nature.

His works feature lifelike animal motifs with a soft charm—each piece adding warmth and personality to your everyday moments.

Every mug is carefully hand-shaped with attention to usability and comfort. The soft milky-white surface, made with the traditional kohiki technique, brings out the natural texture unique to handmade Japanese ceramic.

Warmth you can feel in every handmade detail

Rather than using a brush, Sawada carves the animal illustrations directly into the kohiki surface, giving them a sense of movement and life.

Each line is expressive, adding character and warmth that reflect his distinctive style and skill.

As the son of a Kyoto ceramic artist specializing in Kyo and Kiyomizu ware, Sawada has been surrounded by pottery since childhood. With over 20 years of experience, he is a true master of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
