Handmade ceramic small dish by Takanobu Sawada

Realistic yet endearing.
A quiet moment with your favorite cup.

In the peaceful countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates his distinctive pottery surrounded by nature.

He is known for depicting animals in a realistic yet heartwarming style, turning everyday pottery into something charming and full of life.

Each piece is carefully hand-shaped and carved to ensure it feels just right in your hands.

The soft milky-white *kohiki* glaze enhances the gentle, earthy texture that only handmade pottery can offer.

A Dish That Radiates Handmade Warmth

Instead of using a brush, Sawada carves the animal motifs directly into the kohiki clay body—a technique that gives each line a sense of motion and warmth.

Every line reflects his signature style and lends a sense of life to the piece.

The son of a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, Sawada has been immersed in ceramics since childhood. Now in his 30s, he already has over 20 years of experience and the skills of a seasoned artisan.

Blending youthful creativity with time-honed craftsmanship, Sawada continues to produce original works that reflect Kyoto's rich ceramic tradition.

We hope his pieces bring joy and warmth to your everyday life.
