Handmade Kyoto ceramic with animal carving

Realistic, yet full of charm.
Relax with your favorite handmade cup.

In the countryside of Nantan City, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates pottery featuring animals that are both lifelike and full of warmth.

Working in harmony with the natural surroundings, Sawada shapes each piece by hand with great care, refining the form to ensure a comfortable grip and practical use.

The soft white *kohiki* glaze highlights the gentle character of traditional Japanese earthenware.

Pottery with the Warmth of Craftsmanship

The animal illustrations are not painted with a brush, but rather carved out from the *kohiki* surface using a traditional technique.

Each line captures subtle movement, resulting in a piece that conveys both originality and warmth.

Sawada, the son of a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, has been immersed in the ceramic arts since childhood. With over 20 years of experience, he now stands as a seasoned craftsman in his 30s.

Combining youthful sensibility with refined technique, he creates pottery that reflects the distinctive spirit of Kyoto.
