Realistic, yet full of charm—
Take a moment to unwind with your favorite dishware.
In a quiet countryside studio surrounded by lush forests in Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada brings animals to life on pottery.
Each of his pieces is imbued with gentle warmth, blending realism with a soft, endearing touch—reflecting the serenity of his natural surroundings.
Every item is carefully wheel-thrown and trimmed by hand to ensure comfort and ease of use.
The soft, milky-white tone of the kohiki glaze highlights the natural texture unique to handmade Japanese ceramics.
Feel the Warmth of the Artisan’s Hand
Rather than painting, the animal illustrations are carved by scraping away the kohiki surface—bringing life to each line and adding a sense of motion.
The result is a plate full of expression and character, rich with individuality and warmth.
Born into a family of Kyoto ceramic artists, Sawada has been immersed in pottery since childhood and has over 20 years of experience despite being in his thirties.
Combining his youthful sensibility with refined craftsmanship, he creates original works that reflect the essence of Kyoto tradition with a fresh perspective.
Bring a piece of Kyoto’s handmade artistry into your everyday life—and experience the joy that comes from using something truly special.
