A Matcha Bowl by Akimune Nakamura, Third-Generation Artisan Carrying on the Tradition of Kyo Ware
A matcha bowl by Kyoto potter Akimune Nakamura. Born in Kyoto's Higashiyama district in 1947, he grew up in a family with generations of ceramic-making experience.
He studied ceramics under his father, the second-generation Akimune, and inherited the traditional overglaze painting techniques of Kyo ware. Certified a traditional craft artisan of Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware in 1994, he has spent many years creating tea ceramics in Kyoto.

Delicate Overglaze Painting Depicting Classic Motifs
Drawing on the traditional decorative styles of Kyo ware exemplified by Nonomura Ninsai and Ogata Kenzan, he expresses seasonal flowers and plants as well as classic motifs in a variety of overglaze colors.
The painting is characterized by delicate depictions created with careful brushwork and an emphasis on harmonious colors. It possesses a sense of calm amidst its splendor, conveying the elegant decorative beauty unique to Kyo ware.

Refined Tea Ceramics Reflecting the Beauty of the Four Seasons
The painting, which reflects the changing seasons, evokes the appreciation of nature and aesthetic sensibilities cherished in the tea ceremony.
The appearance created by classic motifs and masterful skill exudes the distinctive character of Kyo ware passed down through generations. This traditional Kyo ware matcha bowl adds seasonal charm and elegance to any tea gathering.

Shop Owner's Comment
This is a matcha bowl by Akimune Nakamura, featuring cherry blossoms painted on a pale, soft ash glaze.
The natural glaze gives the bowl a simple, warm character. Delicate cherry blossoms are painted upon it, expressing the splendor of spring. The pale color of the glaze and the gentle hues of the cherry blossoms harmonize beautifully.
This elegant and distinctive bowl combines the natural texture created by the clay and glaze with the delicate painting characteristic of Kyo ware.
