A Matcha Bowl by Third-Generation Nakamura Akimune, Carrying on the Tradition of Kyo Ware
A matcha bowl by Kyoto potter Nakamura Akimune III. Born in Kyoto’s Higashiyama district in 1947, he grew up in a family with generations of ceramic-making experience.
He studied ceramics under his father, Nakamura Akimune II, and inherited the traditional overglaze painting techniques of Kyo ware. Certified a traditional craft artisan of Kyo and Kiyomizu ware in 1994, he has spent many years creating tea ceramics in Kyoto.

Delicate Overglaze Painting Depicting Classic Motifs
Drawing on the traditional decorative styles of Kyo ware exemplified by Nonomura Ninsé and Ogata Kenzan, he expresses seasonal flora and classic motifs in a rich palette of overglaze colors.
The bowl is characterized by delicate depictions created with careful brushwork and overglaze painting that emphasizes harmonious colors. It possesses a sense of calm beneath its splendor, conveying the elegant decorative beauty unique to Kyo ware.

Distinguished Tea Ceramics Reflecting the Beauty of the Four Seasons
The overglaze painting, which captures the changing seasons, evokes the appreciation for nature and aesthetic sensibilities long cherished in the tea ceremony.
The presence created by classic motifs and masterful skill exudes the distinctive character of Kyo ware passed down through generations. This traditional Kyo ware matcha bowl adds seasonal charm and elegance to any tea gathering.

Shop Owner’s Comment
This matcha bowl by Nakamura Akimune features a charming small chrysanthemum painted on a distinctive form reminiscent of a bundle of straw.
The textured surface of the bowl, evoking a rice straw bale, combines with the soft color of the ash glaze to create a simple, warm appearance. Delicately painted small chrysanthemums add color, completing a tranquil scene that evokes the bounty of autumn.
Combining the motif of a rice straw bale, symbolizing abundance, with the chrysanthemum, an auspicious flower representing longevity, this bowl allows you to enjoy both playful design and seasonal charm.
