Jiucasca pottery Kyoto

Botanical Design Inspired by Nature, Rooted in Kyoto Tradition

Located in a quiet residential area in northern Kyoto, the Jiucasca pottery studio is the creation of young ceramic artist Asami Maeda.

The name “Jiucasca” evokes the image of gentle rain that quietly nourishes daily life—a perfect metaphor for her handmade ceramics.

Crafted in a serene studio with fresh breezes flowing from nearby Mount Hiei, her pottery draws delicate inspiration from plants and natural scenery, blending botanical motifs with traditional Kyo-ware aesthetics.

Artistry Born from Technique and Sensitivity

After studying both painting and philosophy, Asami Maeda turned to ceramics to express her artistic vision.

Her work preserves traditional Japanese techniques while introducing a fresh and modern sensitivity, gently reshaping the world of Kiyomizu-ware pottery in Kyoto.

Ceramics That Quietly Enrich Everyday Moments

“I want to honor the connection between maker and user,” says Maeda. Her pieces are not only visually appealing but thoughtfully designed for ease of use in daily life.

The calm tones and gentle forms of her ceramic wares blend naturally into both modern and traditional table settings, offering a quiet, comforting presence that invites your hand again and again.
