A Vessel That Lets You Enjoy Subtle Expressions in Everyday Life
“Yudeisai” is one of the series created by Yotaro Takemura at Dainichi Kiln.
While it is a vessel made to be used, it is also something you can enjoy simply by catching its expression in a quiet moment.
Of course, it is pleasing to use, but even when it is just sitting there, it gently changes the atmosphere of the space.
Easy to incorporate into daily life, yet somehow refreshing your mood.
This series represents one form of contemporary Kyoto pottery, with a comfortable balance between playfulness and handcraft.
Not “Painting” Color, but Layering It
“Yudeisai” is made using a unique technique in which layers of glaze are sprayed on with an airbrush.
The colors are built up layer by layer, softly blending at their boundaries and creating gentle gradations that cannot be achieved with a brush.
The depth of color that cannot be produced with a single tone is unique to this technique.
Treating color itself as a form of “expression” is the core concept of this series.
Subtle Variations Left Within a Designed Expression
“Yudeisai” is a series created using techniques that can stably reproduce the intended layering and shading of colors.
Although each piece is made with the same design and process, slight differences appear in how the glazes overlap and blur.
While the overall impression is consistent, if you look closely, each piece has its own small differences in expression.
That level of subtle variation gives the work a quiet depth that can only come from handcraft.
Contemporary Kyoto Pottery Nurtured in a Quiet Place
Dainichi Kiln is located in a calm environment near Kansyuji Temple in Kyoto.
While respecting the lineage of Kyoto pottery, Yotaro Takemura continues to explore expressions that are not bound by conventional frameworks.
The “Yudeisai” series is one of the results of this ongoing exploration, focusing on the expression of color and texture.

Owner’s Comment
A furidashi is a tea utensil used for holding konpeito (traditional sugar candies), and is a very specialized type of ceramic piece.
With its palm-sized form and charming, rounded shape, it is a popular item that many people enjoy collecting.
You can also remove the lid and use it as a small flower vase.
