Handmade ceramic plate from Kyoto

Refined Sensibility Inspired by a Zen Temple

This handmade ceramic plate was specially created for an event at Seirai-ji, a sub-temple of the historic Kennin-ji in Kyoto, Japan.

Its soft matte white surface recalls the quiet stone pathways of the temple gardens, capturing both stillness and depth in traditional Kyoto pottery.

Kyoto pottery inspired by temple gardens

Subtle layers of moss green and ink black glaze create a graceful gradient, adding warmth and softness to its refined presence.

From a Quiet Kyoto Studio

This plate is crafted by Yotaro Takemura of Dainichi Kiln, located near Kanshuji Temple in Kyoto.

Japanese ceramic artist in Kyoto

Together with his father, he carries on the traditional techniques of Kyoto ceramics while embracing free and creative expression. Each handmade piece is carefully finished in a tranquil mountain studio, embodying both serenity and playful artistry.

The World of “Yudeisai” Glazing

Takemura’s Yudeisai series is created using a unique air-spray glazing technique.

Mist-like layers of glaze overlap, evoking mossy temple gardens and ink-washed stone pavements. No two pieces are ever the same, each one resembling a landscape captured in ceramic form.
