An Unending Pursuit of Glaze Perfection
Yoshinori Izumi, who has a studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Keihoku, Kyoto, has been researching glazes for over 50 years.
Building on the knowledge he acquired at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology, he has meticulously verified changes due to firing temperature, glaze composition, and the way the flame hits the piece, thereby pursuing his unique kiln-change expressions.
Izumi's works are not merely reliant on chance; they are built upon data and experience accumulated over many years.
Even so, unpredictable changes occur in the kiln, and no two pieces ever turn out the same.

Beautiful Colors Created by Fire
Izumi's Tenmoku and celadon works display complex color changes produced by firing.
The deep gradations created by the flowing glaze and the delicate kiln-change effects from the reaction of mineral components create expressions that resemble natural phenomena.

Tableware that Enriches Daily Life
While Izumi's vessels possess a high artistic quality, they are created with an emphasis on everyday use.
Based on his many years of experience crafting a wide range of vessels, including sake cups, teacups, and matcha bowls, he meticulously considers the feel to the lips, ease of holding, and overall comfort in use.
These vessels possess a quiet presence, yet they enhance the food and drinks served in them. With each use, one can enjoy the changing expressions of the glaze and the play of light.
