The relentless pursuit of glazes
Yoshinori Izumi, who has a studio in the satoyama of Keihoku, Kyoto, has been researching glazes for over 50 years.
Building on the knowledge he cultivated at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology, he has pursued unique kiln transformation expressions by meticulously verifying changes based on firing temperature, glaze composition, and the way the flame hits the piece.
Izumi's work is not merely dependent on chance but is built upon many years of accumulated data and experience.
Even so, unpredictable changes occur in the kiln, and no two pieces turn out exactly the same.

Beautiful colors created by fire
Izumi's Tenmoku and Celadon works exhibit complex color changes created by firing.
The deep gradations created by the flowing glaze and the delicate kiln transformations caused by the reaction of mineral components show expressions that are akin to natural phenomena.

Tableware that blends into daily life
While Izumi's ceramics are highly artistic, they are created with an emphasis on everyday use.
Based on his many years of experience crafting a wide range of vessels, including sake cups, teacups, and matcha bowls, he pays meticulous attention to aspects such as mouthfeel, ease of holding, and comfort of use.
They possess a quiet presence, yet enhance the food and drinks served in them. These are vessels where you can enjoy the changing expressions of the glaze and the play of light with every use.
