Realistic, yet endearing.
Take a relaxing moment with your favorite cup.
Ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works from his studio nestled in the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto.
Surrounded by rich natural scenery, he crafts pottery adorned with lifelike yet heartwarming animals.
Each piece is carefully shaped and trimmed to ensure ease of use when held in the hand.
The soft, milky-white kohiki base accentuates the gentle texture unique to earthenware.

A vessel that radiates the warmth of handcraft
The animal designs are not painted, but carved into the kohiki surface using a sgraffito technique.
Each line carries a sense of motion, bringing life and charm to the piece with a distinct artistic flair.
With a father who is also a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, Sawada has been immersed in ceramics since childhood—and now has over 20 years of experience.
Though still in his 30s, his skills and artistry already place him among seasoned craftsmen.

Blending a youthful perspective with refined technique, Sawada creates pottery that embodies the originality of Kyoto. Let his work bring beauty to your everyday life.
