Realistic, yet endearing.
Take a quiet moment with your favorite cup.
Ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works from his studio in the satoyama region of Nantan, Kyoto.
Surrounded by nature, he creates pottery featuring animals rendered with realism and warmth.
Each piece is carefully hand-shaped and trimmed with comfort and ease of use in mind.
The soft milky-white kohiki base brings out the gentle texture only earthenware can offer.

A vessel full of warmth
The animal designs are not painted with a brush, but carved into the kohiki clay surface.
Each line conveys motion, creating a piece full of character and gentle charm.
The son of a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, Sawada has been immersed in ceramics since childhood and now has over 20 years of experience.
In his 30s, he is already a seasoned artist with polished skill and an original voice.

With a fresh sensibility and refined technique, Sawada continues to create uniquely Kyoto-inspired works. Bring his gentle touch into your daily moments.
