Realistic, yet endearing.
Take a relaxing moment with your favorite cup.

Ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works from his studio surrounded by the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto.

Inspired by the beauty of nature, he creates pieces featuring lifelike yet charming depictions of animals.

Each cup is carefully handcrafted and trimmed to fit comfortably in the hand.

The soft milky-white kohiki clay brings out the natural warmth of traditional pottery.

Kohiki clay texture up close

Crafted with warmth from the artist’s hands

Instead of using a brush, Sawada scratches into the kohiki surface to render the animal designs.

Each line flows with life, giving the piece a distinct sense of warmth and personality.

Raised in a family of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware artisans, Sawada has been familiar with pottery since childhood—and has already amassed 20 years of experience.

Now in his 30s, he’s a seasoned potter with expert skills and a refined sense of form.

Sawada fuses youthful creativity with honed craftsmanship to create uniquely Kyoto pieces. Let his work bring a touch of warmth to your everyday life.

Owner's Comment

This is a compact cup that also works beautifully as a yunomi (tea cup).

Its size nestles naturally in your hand, and the tender animal motifs bring a sense of comfort.

A companion piece that blends quietly and kindly into everyday meals.
