Realistic yet endearing—
Take a relaxing moment with your favorite cup.
In the serene countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works surrounded by nature and inspiration.
His ceramics feature warm, lifelike depictions of animals—pieces that blend realism with charm and a touch of whimsy.
Each vessel is carefully hand-formed and trimmed for comfortable use, with a gentle profile that fits naturally in your hand.
The soft, milky-white base of kohiki glaze brings out the warm texture unique to handmade pottery.
Pottery that radiates handmade warmth
Rather than painting, Sawada carves the animal motifs into the kohiki clay surface. This carving technique gives each line a sense of life and movement.
The result is a texture-rich design that feels both expressive and deeply personal—an artwork in everyday form.
The son of a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware ceramicist, Sawada has been immersed in pottery since childhood and has over 20 years of experience.
Now in his 30s, he is already recognized as a seasoned artist with finely honed skills and a unique creative voice.
With a refined technique and youthful sensibility, Sawada continues to produce original works full of Kyoto character and handmade charm.
We invite you to bring his artistry into your daily life and discover the warmth it offers.

This small cup is also perfect as a yunomi (Japanese tea cup).
Its petite size fits gently in your hand, and the animal motif brings a moment of calm with every glance.
