Shunzan Kiln: A Legacy Passed Down at Sennyu-ji Temple in Kyoto

Shunzan Kiln was founded in 1917 at the foot of Sennyu-ji Temple in Higashiyama, Kyoto.

While inheriting the traditions of Kiyomizu-yaki, they continue to create vessels that highlight the beauty of their painting and decoration, using seasonal flora and classical motifs as their themes.

Each matcha bowl, finished by hand, possesses a delicacy and splendor characteristic of Kyoto pottery, allowing you to enjoy various expressions depending on the angle from which you view it.

Rich Expressions Born from Layered Handcraft

The charm of Shunzan Kiln lies in the rich expression created by the harmony of the vessel's shape, painting, glaze, and decoration.

From delicate brushwork to the use of techniques like gold overlay, lusterware, and ittchin on certain pieces, each matcha bowl is completed with multiple layers of handcrafted detail.

Even with their splendor, they are not excessively ornate, retaining the soft textures of the clay and glaze—a refined quality characteristic of Shunzan Kiln.

Matcha Bowls to Enjoy Both Visually and Through Use

What Shunzan Kiln values most is creating "vessels that are enjoyable to look at and bring joy when used."

The meticulously crafted decorations offer visual pleasure, while holding the bowl firmly conveys the warmth of a matcha bowl.

These pieces are not only perfect for enjoying a seasonal cup of tea but also as a cherished vessel to keep by your side, allowing you to experience Kyoto craftsmanship firsthand for a long time.

Comes in a wooden box.

This matcha bowl will be delivered in a wooden box whose texture is befitting the atmosphere of the piece.
The inscription on the box is handwritten by the artist themselves, adding to its value as an authenticated piece.

It is perfect for personal use, as well as an ideal gift for special occasions.

Please consider it as a thoughtful gift for celebrations or seasonal greetings to your loved ones.
