Artist Profile
Yoshiaki Yamaoka (Zensho)
- Born in 1942 in Mie Prefecture, Japan
- Graduated from Kyoto Prefectural Pottery Vocational Training School in 1959; apprenticed under master Zenpō
- Established independent studio in 1969 under the name “Zensho”
- Recipient of multiple awards at the Tanko Biennale Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition and Kyoto Overglaze Ceramic Exhibitions
- Certified Traditional Craftsman since 2006
- Featured on NHK’s “The Art of Beauty” (Kyo-yaki edition)
- Recipient of the Chairman’s Award from the Kyoto Ceramic Cooperative Federation
