Artist Profile

Yoshiaki Yamaoka (Zensho)

  • Born in 1942 in Mie Prefecture, Japan
  • Graduated from Kyoto Prefectural Pottery Vocational Training School in 1959; apprenticed under master Zenpō
  • Established independent studio in 1969 under the name “Zensho”
  • Recipient of multiple awards at the Tanko Biennale Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition and Kyoto Overglaze Ceramic Exhibitions
  • Certified Traditional Craftsman since 2006
  • Featured on NHK’s “The Art of Beauty” (Kyo-yaki edition)
  • Recipient of the Chairman’s Award from the Kyoto Ceramic Cooperative Federation
