Kiyomizu Ware Tea Ceramics by Kaifū Yagi

Created in Yamashiro, Kyoto—an area close to Uji and deeply connected to Japan’s tea culture—this matcha bowl is crafted by Kaifū Yagi, who has dedicated many years to traditional tea ceramics.

Its balanced form and calm presence reflect the aesthetics of the tea ceremony, conveying the quiet confidence that comes from long-practiced handmade Kyoto pottery.

Each bowl is finished by hand, with subtle variations in brushwork and spacing that give every piece its own character.

Tea Ceramic Artist: Kaifū Yagi

Born in 1950 in Yamashiro, Kyoto.

After graduating from the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Training School, he apprenticed under the first-generation ceramic artist Josui Kato.

Specializing in traditional Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware tea ceramics, he has received numerous awards at major ceramic exhibitions.

In 2003, he was certified as a Traditional Craftsman of Kiyomizu Ware.

He continues to work at his studio in Yamashiro-Taga, Kyoto.

The gentle expression of Okame (O-Fuku) is painted with warmth and quiet charm. The rustic glaze and soft brushwork come together to create an approachable, comforting presence. A matcha bowl that brings a relaxed, friendly atmosphere to casual tea moments.
