Kiyomizu Ware Tea Ceramics by Kaifū Yagi

Crafted in Yamashiro, Kyoto—an area close to Uji and deeply rooted in Japanese tea culture—this matcha bowl is created by Kaifū Yagi, a kiln master who has devoted many years to traditional tea ceramics.

Its precise form and clean, composed presence reflect the quiet confidence of handmade craftsmanship, shaped with careful attention to the traditions of Kyoto pottery.

Hand-Painted Details, Each One Unique

Finished entirely by hand, each matcha bowl carries subtle differences in brushwork and spacing, giving every piece its own individual character.

No two bowls are exactly alike—this uniqueness is a defining feature of handmade ceramic art and part of the joy of selecting a piece that feels personal.

Practical Elegance for Tea Time

From the depth of the bowl to the comfort of the rim and the balance in hand, every detail is shaped with everyday use in mind.

Suitable for both regular practice and relaxed daily tea moments, this bowl quietly enhances your matcha experience.

Tea Ceramic Artist: Kaifū Yagi

Born in 1950 in Yamashiro, Kyoto.

After graduating from the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Training School, he apprenticed under the first-generation ceramic artist Josui Kato.

Centering his work on traditional Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware tea ceramics, he has received numerous awards at major ceramic art exhibitions.

In 2003, he was officially recognized as a Traditional Craftsman of Kiyomizu Ware.

He continues to create pottery at his studio in Yamashiro-Taga, Kyoto.

Owner’s Comment

“Snow Rabbit” refers to a small rabbit traditionally made from snow in winter. Bamboo leaves are used for the ears, and red nandina berries for the eyes—an image long loved as a seasonal symbol in Japan. This design carries a gentle sense of playfulness and a subtle wish for good fortune.
