Kiyomizu Ware Tea Ceramics by Kaifū Yagi

Crafted in Yamashiro, Kyoto—an area close to Uji and deeply connected to Japanese tea culture—this matcha bowl is created by Kaifū Yagi, a kiln master devoted to traditional tea ceramics from Japan.

Its precise form and dignified silhouette reflect years of handmade craftsmanship, shaped with a deep understanding of Kyoto pottery and the refined aesthetics of tea.

Hand-Painted Details, Each One Unique

Each matcha bowl is carefully hand-painted, with subtle variations in brushwork and spacing that give every piece its own individual character.

No two bowls are exactly alike—this individuality is a defining quality of handmade ceramic art and part of the pleasure of selecting a piece that feels truly personal.

Practical Elegance for Tea Time

From the depth of the bowl to the comfort of the rim and the balance in hand, every detail is thoughtfully shaped with real, everyday use in mind.

Suitable for both regular practice and formal tea settings, this bowl quietly enhances the tea experience with composed elegance.

Tea Ceramic Artist: Kaifū Yagi

Born in 1950 in Yamashiro, Kyoto.

After completing his studies at the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Training School, he apprenticed under the first-generation ceramic artist Josui Kato.

Specializing in traditional Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware tea ceramics, he has received numerous awards at major ceramic art exhibitions.

In 2003, he was officially recognized as a Traditional Craftsman of Kiyomizu Ware.

He continues to create pottery at his studio in Yamashiro-Taga, Kyoto.

Owner’s Comment

Gold-accented rims stand out against the deep black surface, while a continuous shippo (seven treasures) pattern encircles the bowl. The contrast between the rich black glaze and refined gold detailing creates a composed, dignified presence. A matcha bowl that adds understated elegance and formality to refined tea gatherings.
