Kiyomizu Ware Tea Ceramics by Kaifū Yagi

Crafted in Yamashiro, Kyoto—an area close to Uji and deeply rooted in Japan’s tea culture—this matcha bowl is created by Kaifū Yagi, who has devoted decades to traditional tea ceramics.

The well-balanced form and refined presence reflect the calm discipline of the tea ceremony, revealing the stability and confidence of long-practiced handmade Kyoto pottery.

Hand-Painted Character, One of a Kind

Each matcha bowl is carefully hand-painted, with subtle variations in brushwork and spacing that give every piece its own personality.

No two bowls are exactly alike—this individuality is a defining feature of handmade ceramic art and part of the joy of choosing your own bowl.

Designed for Everyday Tea Moments

From the depth of the bowl to the feel of the rim and the balance in the hand, every detail is shaped with real use in mind.

Suitable for both tea practice and relaxed daily enjoyment, this bowl gently enhances quiet moments of preparing and savoring matcha.

Tea Ceramic Artist: Kaifū Yagi

Born in 1950 in Yamashiro, Kyoto.

After completing his studies at the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Training School, he apprenticed under the first-generation ceramic artist Josui Kato.

Focusing on traditional Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware tea ceramics, he has received numerous awards at major ceramic art exhibitions.

In 2003, he was officially certified as a Traditional Craftsman of Kiyomizu Ware.

He continues to create pottery at his studio in Yamashiro-Taga, Kyoto.

Owner’s Comment

Delicate violets are gently painted against a soft blue-white surface, creating a quietly charming scene. The mellow expression of the ash glaze blends beautifully with the rustic warmth of the ceramic body. A matcha bowl that adds a subtle touch of color and tenderness to springtime tea moments.
