Handmade Kyoto Pottery Mug

From a Small Kiln in Kyoto

Dainichi Kiln, located near Kansyuji Temple in Kyoto, is a small family-run workshop.

Father Shigeo Takemura and his son Yotaro craft pieces that stay true to the tradition of Kiyomizu-ware while blending seamlessly into modern daily life.

Each item is carefully handmade in their quiet mountain studio, using natural glazes and traditional Japanese ceramic techniques.

Traditional Japanese Pottery Mug

A Blue Glaze Inspired by Sky and Sea

The kiln’s signature Hekiyu (blue glaze) series reflects the beauty of sky and sea captured in pottery.

From vibrant turquoise to soft aqua and deep indigo, the flowing glaze creates a natural gradient unique to each piece.

Because every mug is finished by hand, the glaze patterns and shades vary, ensuring no two are ever alike.

The appearance changes with the light and angle, offering a living expression of traditional Japanese ceramic artistry.

Handcrafted Kyoto Ceramic Mug

A Touch of Elegance for the Table

The Hekiyu glaze complements not only Japanese cuisine but also Western dishes, making it versatile for many occasions.

Its calm transparency and depth bring out the beauty of food and drink, transforming everyday dining into something special.

Refined enough for gifting, yet practical for everyday use, this handmade Kyoto pottery piece is perfect for enriching modern life with traditional elegance.
