From a Small Kiln in Kyoto
Dainichi Kiln, located near Kansyuji Temple in Kyoto, is a family-run workshop dedicated to handmade pottery.
Father Shigeo Takemura and his son Yotaro create pieces that honor the tradition of Kiyomizu-ware while blending seamlessly into modern life.
Natural glazes and careful craftsmanship define their work, with each piece lovingly made one at a time in their quiet mountain studio.
A Blue Glaze Inspired by Sky and Sea
The kiln’s signature Hekiyu (blue glaze) series captures the brilliance of the sky and sea in ceramic form.
From vibrant turquoise to pale aqua and deep indigo, the flowing glaze creates a natural gradient unique to each mug.
Every piece is handmade, with subtle variations in the glaze and color ensuring that no two are ever alike.
The appearance shifts beautifully depending on the light and angle, offering a sense of living artistry.
