Realistic, yet full of charm.
Take a peaceful moment with your favorite cup.

Tucked away in the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada runs his studio surrounded by lush nature.

His work captures animals with realistic detail and a soft, heartfelt expression.

Each cup is meticulously hand-formed and trimmed for a comfortable grip and daily usability.

The soft milky-white kohiki clay enhances the gentle, earthen texture unique to pottery.

Hand-carved kohiki cup by Kyoto potter Takanobu Sawada

Craftsmanship you can feel

The animals are not painted but carved into the kohiki surface by hand.

Each line feels alive, full of expression and warmth that reflect the artist’s unique style.

Born to a Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potter, Sawada has been immersed in ceramics since childhood and now boasts over 20 years of experience.

Now in his 30s, he is a seasoned artisan known for his refined craftsmanship and distinctive creativity.

With his youthful perspective and finely honed skill, Sawada creates pieces brimming with Kyoto’s spirit of artistry. We hope his work brings a gentle joy to your everyday life.
