Endless Pursuit of Glaze Research

Yoshinori Izumi, who has a studio in the satoyama (rural landscape) of Keihoku, Kyoto, has been researching glazes for over 50 years.

Building on the knowledge cultivated at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology, he has pursued unique kiln-change expressions by meticulously examining changes caused by firing temperature, glaze composition, and flame exposure.

Izumi's works are not merely reliant on chance but are based on data and experience accumulated over many years.

Nevertheless, unpredictable changes occur inside the kiln, ensuring that no two pieces will ever have the same appearance.

Beautiful Colors Created by Fire

Izumi's Tenmoku and Celadon works exhibit complex color changes born from firing.

The deep gradations created by the flowing glaze and the delicate kiln-changes resulting from the reaction of mineral components show expressions akin to natural phenomena.

Tableware for Daily Life

While possessing a high artistic quality, Izumi's vessels are created with an emphasis on everyday use.

From his experience of making a wide range of vessels over many years, including sake cups, teacups, and matcha bowls, meticulous attention is paid to the feel on the lips, ease of holding, and overall comfort of use.

These vessels possess a quiet presence yet enhance food and beverages. They allow you to enjoy the changing expressions of the glaze and light with every use.

For a Special Gift

The works are delivered in a wooden box inscribed by the artist.

The scenery created by the kiln changes differs with each piece, and each possesses a unique expression.

Izumi's works, born from his long-standing dedication to glazes, are also recommended as special gifts.

These impactful vessels will deepen in charm with every use.
