Realistic, yet full of charm.
Take a quiet moment with your favorite cup.

Deep in the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works out of his studio surrounded by natural beauty.

His pottery features warm, lifelike animals, carefully sculpted to bring comfort to your everyday moments.

Each piece is thoughtfully shaped for daily use, with a soft, hand-carved silhouette that feels right at home in your hands.

The gentle white hue of the kohiki glaze enhances the warm texture that only handmade pottery can offer.

Experience the warmth of handwork

The animal motifs are not painted—they are brought to life by carving away the kohiki surface.

Each line is full of movement, creating a piece that is both expressive and full of warmth.

Takanobu Sawada, son of a Kyo and Kiyomizu ware ceramic artist, has been surrounded by pottery since childhood. With over 20 years of experience, he is now considered a seasoned artist in his thirties.

His confident craftsmanship and unique expression place him among Kyoto’s most notable young ceramic artists.

By blending refined technique with a fresh perspective, Sawada’s work offers a new interpretation of Kyoto's ceramic tradition—one that seamlessly fits into modern life.
