Realistic, yet full of charm.
Take a peaceful moment with your favorite cup.

Ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works from his studio nestled in the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto.

Surrounded by lush nature, he creates warm, lifelike depictions of animals on ceramic ware.

Each piece is carefully shaped by hand, with thoughtful trimming for a comfortable grip.

The soft white kohiki base highlights the gentle texture unique to pottery.

Detail of kohiki clay and carving technique

Craftsmanship with warmth

The animal designs are carved out of the kohiki surface rather than painted.

Every line carries motion, resulting in a piece filled with warmth and individual character.

Born to a family of Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware potters, Sawada has been immersed in ceramics since childhood and has over 20 years of experience.

Now in his 30s, he has already reached the level of a seasoned artisan with impressive technical skill.

With a youthful sensibility and refined technique, Sawada creates distinctive pieces rooted in Kyoto tradition. We invite you to enjoy his work as part of your everyday life.
