Realistic, yet endearing.
Take a peaceful break with your favorite cup.

In the tranquil mountains of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada crafts his work in a studio surrounded by nature.

His pottery features animals that are both lifelike and heartwarming—each one lovingly handmade to reflect the natural beauty of the Japanese countryside.

Every piece is carefully shaped by hand, with a balanced form designed for comfortable daily use.

The soft white kohiki glaze enhances the warm texture that only traditional ceramic from Japan can offer.

Handmade warmth in every detail

The animal illustrations are not painted—they are carved into the clay by hand, revealing expressive lines and natural movement.

Each mark is full of life, giving the piece a uniquely personal and artistic character.

Born into a family of traditional Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware artisans, Sawada has been surrounded by Kyoto pottery from a young age.

Now in his 30s, with over two decades of experience, he is considered a master in his field—fusing classic techniques with a modern touch.

With both youthful creativity and refined technique, Sawada creates ceramic works full of Kyoto-style originality.

Discover the charm of traditional handmade pottery—perfect for adding a touch of Japan to your everyday life.
