Realistic, yet irresistibly charming.
Take a quiet moment with your favorite cup.

Deep in the countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada works from his peaceful studio surrounded by nature.

His handmade pottery features warm, lifelike animal motifs that reflect the serenity of his environment.

Each piece is carefully shaped by hand, with a thoughtfully trimmed form that feels comfortable and effortless to hold.

The soft milky-white glaze—known as kohiki—enhances the natural, gentle texture unique to traditional Japanese ceramics.

Feel the warmth of handmade craftsmanship

Instead of being painted, the animal designs are carved directly into the kohiki clay, a technique that gives the lines an expressive, dynamic quality.

Each piece radiates individuality, blending artistic charm with a personal, handcrafted feel.

Takanobu Sawada grew up immersed in the world of pottery—his father is also a ceramic artist rooted in the Kyo ware and Kiyomizu ware traditions of Kyoto.

With over 20 years of experience, he has already mastered his craft, blending tradition with fresh, contemporary sensibility.

Combining youthful creativity with refined skill, Sawada creates one-of-a-kind pieces that represent the spirit of Kyoto's traditional and modern pottery culture.

Bring a touch of handmade beauty into your daily life—discover the quiet elegance of his work.
