Realistic, yet somehow endearing.
Relax and unwind with your favorite cup.

Takanobu Sawada is a potter who has his studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Nantan City, Kyoto.

Surrounded by rich natural scenery, he creates vessels featuring animals that are both realistic and warm.

Each piece is carefully shaped, with forms carved out to ensure ease of use when held.

The soft, milky-white kohiki (slip-coated) base enhances the gentle texture unique to pottery.

Vessels that convey the warmth of handcraftsmanship

The animal patterns are not drawn with a brush but are expressed by scratching away the kohiki base.

Each line has movement, resulting in a unique and warm finish.

Takanobu Sawada, whose father was a potter of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki ware, has been familiar with pottery since childhood and has already been creating pottery for 20 years.

At just 30 years old, he is a highly skilled craftsman who has reached the level of a veteran.

With a youthful sensibility and refined skill, Mr. Sawada creates unique vessels that are distinctly Kyoto.

We invite you to experience their charm in your daily life.

Shop owner's comment

This is a practical mug with a generous capacity.

The handle is large and wide, fitting comfortably in the hand for excellent grip.

The animal patterns, drawn all over the vessel, are all expressive and captivating.

We hope you find your favorite piece.
