Realistic, yet somehow endearing.
Take a moment to relax with your favorite cup.

Takanobu Sawada is a potter who has his studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Nantan City, Kyoto.

Surrounded by rich nature, he creates vessels with warm, realistic depictions of animals.

Each piece is carefully shaped, with forms carved out to ensure ease of use when held.

The soft, milky white kohiki (slip-coated) clay enhances the gentle texture unique to pottery.

Vessels that convey the warmth of handcraft

The animal patterns are not drawn with a brush but created by carving into the kohiki (slip-coated) clay.

Each line has a sense of movement, resulting in a unique and warm artistic quality.

Takanobu Sawada, whose father is a potter of Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki ware, has been familiar with pottery since childhood and has already been creating pottery for 20 years.

At just 30 years old, he is a highly skilled craftsman who has reached the level of a veteran.

Mr. Sawada combines a fresh sensibility with refined technique to create unique vessels that are distinctly Kyoto.

We invite you to experience their charm in your daily life.
