Takunobu Sawada is a ceramic artist with a studio in the satoyama (foothills) of Nantan City, Kyoto.
Surrounded by rich nature, he creates vessels featuring realistic yet warm animal designs.
Each piece is meticulously formed and carved to ensure ease of use when held.
The soft milky-white slipware base enhances the gentle texture unique to ceramics.
Vessels that convey the warmth of handcrafted work
The animal patterns are not drawn with a brush, but rather created by scratching away the slipware base.
Each line has movement, resulting in a unique and warm finish.
Takunobu Sawada, whose father is a Kyoto ware / Kiyomizu ware ceramic artist, has been familiar with pottery since childhood and has already been creating pottery for 20 years.
At 30, he is a craftsman with solid skills, having reached the level of a veteran.
Sawada-san combines a youthful sensibility with refined techniques to create vessels overflowing with Kyoto's unique originality.
