Realistic, yet warmly endearing—
Enjoy a moment of calm with your favorite cup.
In the serene countryside of Nantan, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada creates traditional Japanese pottery inspired by nature and wildlife.
Each piece features expressive animals, skillfully carved by hand to capture a balance of realism and warmth—perfect for adding personality to your daily table.
Every mug is handcrafted with thoughtful care. The gentle curves are shaped to feel natural in your hands, while the soft milky-white surface, made using the traditional kohiki technique, brings out the earthy charm of handmade ceramic from Japan.
The warmth of handmade tradition
The animal motifs are not painted, but carved directly into the clay surface. Each line has a sense of motion, giving the piece a vivid, handmade character unique to Sawada’s style.
Born to a family of Kyoto ceramic artists specializing in Kyo and Kiyomizu ware, Sawada has been immersed in pottery since childhood. With over 20 years of experience, he blends skilled technique with youthful creativity.
His work brings a fresh sense of originality to traditional Kyoto pottery—pieces that are not only beautiful, but also practical for everyday use. Let one of these unique mugs become part of your daily ritual.
