Realistic, yet undeniably charming.
Take a moment to unwind with your favorite cup.
In the scenic countryside of Nantan City, Kyoto, ceramic artist Takanobu Sawada crafts pieces that depict animals with both realism and warmth.
Surrounded by the natural beauty of the mountains, he carefully hand-forms each item, shaping it with usability and comfort in mind.
The soft white *kohiki* clay body enhances the gentle texture unique to traditional Japanese pottery.

Pottery with the Warmth of Handwork
Instead of painting with a brush, Sawada scrapes away the *kohiki* surface to carve each animal by hand.
Every line is filled with motion and expression, creating a finish that’s both artistic and heartwarming.
Born into a family of Kyoto ceramic artists, Sawada has been surrounded by Kyo-ware and Kiyomizu-ware since childhood. With over 20 years of experience, he brings exceptional skill and vision to his work—even in his 30s.
His youthful creativity combined with refined technique results in pottery that is distinctively Kyoto—traditional yet original.

These handmade ceramic pieces from Kyoto are a delight to use and display. We hope you’ll enjoy adding them to your everyday moments.

Owner's Comment
This plate is crafted using the traditional *tatara* technique, which involves shaping flat clay sheets by hand—a process that requires time and care.
Its size and flat shape make it ideal for a wide range of uses, from cakes and pastries to small portions of salads or side dishes.
The expressive animals carved into the surface add a playful charm—it’s the kind of piece that makes you smile just by looking at it.
I hope you’ll find one that feels just right for you.
