“Puppy” by Nakamura Hōchū — *Kōrin Gafu*, Edo Period, 1802
Collection of the National Institute of Japanese Literature

A Classic Masterpiece Reimagined in Clay

Nakamura Hōchū was a celebrated painter of the Edo period, known for his warm, whimsical style.

His playful depiction of a puppy—soft, rounded, and full of character—has remained beloved through generations.

Now, this iconic image has been reborn by the hands of a Kyoto ceramic artist as a handmade sake cup you can enjoy in the palm of your hand.

Rounded Form with a Gentle Touch

Each piece is carefully handcrafted, shaped into a soft, rounded form that fits comfortably in your hand.

This guinomi combines the irresistible charm of Japanese art with the practicality of a sake vessel, making it a joy to use—and to behold.

Pour a drink and unwind, one thoughtful sip at a time.

Like a Puppy at Play

The gentle wobble of this cup as it rests on the table evokes a playful puppy frolicking about.

It’s the kind of heartwarming presence that naturally brings a smile to your face.

Infuse your daily rituals with a moment of joy and calm through this charming piece of traditional Kyoto pottery.
