“Puppy” by Nakamura Hōchū – Kōrin Gafu, Edo period (1802)
Collection of the National Institute of Japanese Literature
A Masterpiece Revived in Ceramic Form – “Puppy” by Hōchū
Nakamura Hōchū, a painter from the Edo period, was known for his relaxed, humorous style.
His loosely drawn, irresistibly cute puppy illustration has long been beloved by generations of art lovers.
This charming image has been brought back to life by a Kyoto-based ceramic artist, now reborn as a traditional handmade sake cup you can hold in your palm.

Rounded Shape, Lovingly Crafted by Hand
Each cup is handmade, featuring a soft, round form that fits naturally in the hand.
Its playful shape and functional design as a sake vessel make it a delightful combination of art and practicality.
Enjoy a calming sip, and feel the warmth of traditional Kyoto pottery in everyday life.

Like a Puppy at Play
The gentle wobble on a tabletop brings to mind a playful puppy rolling around.
It’s full of lighthearted charm—just looking at it may bring a smile to your face.
This handmade ceramic cup adds a soothing, joyful touch to your everyday moments.
