Puppy by Nakamura Hōchū — *Kōrin Gafu*, 1802 (Edo period), held by the National Institute of Japanese Literature
A Classic Painting Reimagined in Clay — “Puppy” by Hōchū
Nakamura Hōchū, a renowned painter of the Edo period, was known for his warm and humorous brushwork.
His charmingly loose and endearing puppy illustrations have captured hearts for generations.
Now, this beloved artwork has been brought to life as a *guinomi* (sake cup), handcrafted by a Kyoto-based ceramic artist.

Rounded Form, Refined by Hand
This petite sake cup is carefully handmade, with a soft, rounded silhouette that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand.
Its adorable shape invites you to gently roll it in your hands, while its functionality as a sake vessel remains uncompromised.
Each sip offers a moment of relaxation, adding joy to your daily rituals.

A Playful Presence, Like a Puppy at Play
The way the cup gently wobbles on the table is reminiscent of a playful puppy rolling around—filled with charm and whimsy.
It’s the kind of object that brings a smile without trying too hard—a small delight in everyday life.
This piece adds a sense of peace and playfulness to any moment, whether used or simply admired.

Owner's Comment
This little guinomi is full of character—humorous, adorable, and distinctly Japanese.
It’s designed to wobble slightly, but don’t worry—it won’t tip over, so you can use it with ease and confidence.
It also makes a lovely decorative item or a thoughtful gift, especially for dog lovers or collectors of traditional Kyoto pottery.
