魔除け、鍾馗像

 

京都の若き陶芸家、吉田瑞希さんが作る鍾馗（しょうき）の陶人形。

古くから魔除けや厄除けの象徴とされてきた鍾馗さん。

時代の変化とともに忘れかけられていた守り神に新たな息吹が吹き込みました。

 

鍾馗とは？

鍾馗は、中国の道教に由来する神です。

その威厳ある姿は、長い髭、官人の衣装、そして剣を手にした堂々たる佇まいです。

京都では鍾馗さんを瓦屋根に掲げて、厄災を払う魔除けとして大事にされてきました。

鬼より強いとされる鍾馗を屋根に掲げることで、鬼瓦に代わる魔除けとして願いを込めた鍾馗像は、江戸時代の京都で一つの風習として広まりました。

鬼瓦や沖縄のシーサーのように文化と風習に深く結びついています。

瓦屋根の少なくなってきた今でも、京都の街を歩くと屋根に鍾馗を掲げた家屋が見受けられます。

 

吉田瑞希さんの手仕事

吉田瑞希さんの手がける鍾馗像には、威厳がある姿はそのままに陶器ならではの柔らかさや温かみが感じられる魅力があります。

大学時代、京都の町家の屋根瓦に佇む鍾馗像と出会ったことが、鍾馗にかける情熱の始まりでした。

その存在感に心を奪われた吉田は、伝統を大切にしつつも、自分の感性を注ぎ込んだ鍾馗像を制作しています。
