About the Artist
Noboru Yamaoka
Born in Mie Prefecture in 1942 (Showa 17).
Graduated from Kyoto Ceramic Training School in 1959. Trained for 10 years under Zenjiro Ueyama.
Established his own kiln, Yamaoka Togakuen, in 1969. Given the artist name "Noboru" (善昇) by his mentor.
Exhibited at the 1990 International Garden and Greenery Exposition.
Selected three times for the Kyo-ware & Kiyomizu-ware Exhibition.
Selected for the 1992 Tanko Biennale Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition.
Awarded Kyoto Mayor’s Prize at the Kyoto Colored Ceramic Art Exhibition in 1998.
Received the Governor's Prize three times and 10 selections at the Overglaze Ceramic Art Exhibition.
Also received several prizes at the Kyoto Prefecture Craft Design Competition.
